The grass is not always greener on the other side.
When we got our detailed ecology report last year we went back to the drawing board and started again. Landscape and ecology have driven this project right from the start.
There are two main types of grassland in the field:
- MG1 which is species poor grassland of low botanical interest, and
- CG5a which is herb-rich grassland of higher botanical interest with its main concentration in the Cotswolds, and is found on the slopes to the north-west of the field.
As a result of the ecology report we made sure that all the high value CG5a grassland would be preserved and protected.
The new homes will be in a low value MG1 area, an area also recently disturbed by building work for new housing next door to the field.
The ecology report is detailed and comprehensive, and we have used it to help us design a project which respects local wildlife, from maintaining a wildlife corridor to preserving all the trees, to reinstating the ponds and managing the grassland for biodiversity.
In fact, the amount of priority habitat on the site will increase as a result of the traditional orchard.
You can see the ecology report here.
Let the planners know what you think.
